glibc problem installing flash player 6

I'm trying to install flash player 6 on slack 9.1 with dropline gnome, for use in mozilla and epiphany. When I try to run the installer I get the error:

./flashplayer-installer: line 76: [: 9): integer expression expected
ERROR: Your glibc library is older than 2.2.
       Please update your glibc library.
However my glibc is 2.3.2. Any ideas?

Well I just reinstalled Slack from scratch because I'd been playing around a bit too much and things were getting a bit messy. No dropline gnome this time (because I didn't really like it and much prefer KDE), and flash installed fine. Go figure!
