GL XScreensavers causing KDE crash
Hey,
After a recent update to Slack64 current, GL xscreensavers cause KDE to crash every single time they are run. The crash actually happens as the screensaver exits (ie it runs fine until a mouse or keyboard event, then crashes). Here's the relevant Xorg output: Code:
(EE) intel(0): [DRI2] DRI2SwapComplete: bad drawable I'm using the i915 Intel module. Any ideas? |
KDE 4.5.5 (Slackware 13.37) or my own KDE 4.6.1 ?
I have the same issue, on i915 driver, with GL screensavers, but only in KDE 4.6.1 (I do not run 4.5.5)... I also tested the same screensavers in XFCE, but they are fine there. Eric |
Hi Eric,
This is under 4.5.5. I was actually thinking of upgrading to your 4.6.1 to see if it would solve the problem... evidently not! I also tried another WM (i3) and GL screensavers work fine there. |
So it's probably the compositing desktop that has a bug with the Intel driver.

I'm having a good experience with my integrated intel chips, mesa in /testing and kernel 2.6.38.
it's just an idea, but you can try upgrading mesa to that and see if that fixes it. |

@OP. I suggest you to jump on 2.6.38.2 (new&better DRM) and to use Mesa 7.10.1, or, better, the GIT HEAD version. |
I actually tried a 38.2 Kernel last night with no luck. When I get home I'll try a new Mesa as well.
Thanks all. |
The mesa in /testing made no difference to me here.

These zero-day packages, combined with 2.6.38.2 and your KDE-4.6.1 works fine for me, with a i915G / an G31 (embedded)-video. :D If you are amazed about the MESA's package size, don't worry! It's true! It have 36,788KB. You just see the future of MESA, Gallium with all jingles & bells, including LLVM & Co. ;) EDIT: I forgot to upload the source packages too. Now are there. |
The Mesa in testing/ didn't work for me either. I'll take a look at Vader's next.
