gksu or alternative?
 

I'm wondering if there is a command other than gksu to run gui apps as root in gnome?
I have made an Admin menu in smeg for running things like nautilus - Super User and gslapt and I would normally use gksu but I have been unable to find a slackware gksu package and I've been trying to compile gksu without success.
libksu and libgksuui compile ok but when I try gksu it keeps saying libgksu and libgksuui are missing, even though I have installed the versions it is asking for.

Apologies for being so hasty. After nosing round my /usr/bin directory I found gnomesu.

Glad to hear you found gnomesu. Regarding gksu, did you run ldconfig after compiling the libraries? Probably that was why it didn't find them.

I've never heard of ldconfig. Though I have now noticed that ldconfig is run whilst booting.
I'm happy with gnomesu now but since you mention ldconfig could that be the cause of this little problem - If I remove anything using slapt-get, even something seemingly minor, then on next boot up I can't log in, it says there is some missing shared library or other (different ones depending on what I have removed) so I end up having to re-install what I removed.
Should I be running ldconfig or something after removing stuff?

It's not necessary when you remove things, but it is when you install new ones. Anyway, if you use installpkg or upgradepkg to install software it's already run for you. You have to do it "manually" after you compile and install software using the traditional way (not using packages).

Thanks. After mostly using .deb and .rpm based distros, installing and removing packages is the one thing that's taking a lot of getting used to. It's certainly less convenient and much more hassle. But also more fun and interesting.
