Question Gimp blocks when click on rulers - Slackware 13.37

Hi everybody! It's the first time I post here but I always come here to find solutions for problems and usually I find them but I didn't find anything related with my problem so that's why I am posting .

I am really happy with my Slackware installation but I encountered a problem using Gimp, I would like to know if it's just me or really the problem can be reproduced by others, here is my problem:

When I open an image or create new one if a click on the rulers and drag the mouse to create a new guide the mouse clicks seems to doesn't work, I cannot move any window but if I choose the toolbox window and press shortcut keys they select the tools, when I change to another workspace and turn back to the gimp's workspace everything works again but I couldn't create a new guide.

I am using XFCE as desktop and the proprietary NVIDIA drivers (just in case it may be a problem). The Gimp error console doesn't show anything.

I have been searching but I didn't find anything related to this problem.

Regards.

Confirmed. Oh, that's bad. The mouse becomes unusable - no clicking at all - after trying to drag a guide in. Nothing to do with NVIDIA because I'm not using it. Just Slackware 13.37 and Gimp-2.6.11 which is the latest stable.

I took a quick look around on Gimp's site and mailing list and didn't find anything, but I'm going to look some more. If it isn't Gimp itself, it coult be one of the library versions in Slackware.

As a work-around, using the menu Image => Guides => New Guide... instead. It does work, and then you can move the guide around to where you want it.

Found the Gimp bug report here: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=645315
Happens with other distros too.

The actual cause they found - hard to imagine - is the xscreensaver. Kill off the screensaver and the guides drag out just fine. (This has to be one of the most bizarre interaction problems ever.)

edit:

Yikes! I just tried running xscreensaver under dwm and then tried using the guides in gimp and I couldn't type into ANY window. It locked it solid!

Had to ctrl-alt-f1 out and pkill it.

Nice find ljb643! Guess I won't be using xscreensaver for a while!

Updating to xscreensaver 5.13 appears to fix it.

Thanks for the answers! killing the xscreensaver solves the problem as pointed ljb643. I'll try to update to 5.13 version as recommend GazL.

Thanks again .

PD.- Confirmed with XScreenSaver 5.13 everything works fine .

Thanks - confirmed, same issue.

It seems to lock the mouse in tool mode anytime you click the rulers.

While locked, I started pressing all the keys, and noticed I was able to switch between tools.
Then when I started trying other combinations, CTRL nothing, but ALT triggered the menus to dropdown,
and I was back to normal. I think it was ALT+I or something.

Looking to upgrade xscreensaver now - thanks for finding
