Getting Slackware9.1 to recognize 2GB of memory
I just installed Slackware 9.1. I am not sure if it is recognizing both of my processors. However, free does indicate that only 1GB of memory is recognized.
I tried to change some of the 'HIGHMEM' lines in /boot/config but that didn't seem to help. Suggestions? Thanks! |
You have to recompile your kernel with highmem enabled. It's pretty simple, just follow the steps in the stickies at the top of the forum. I think you have to enable smp or something for dual processors, I'm not sure exactly what you need to change because I've only got one.

Wow, Are you using the machine as a server or for other purposes?
Why don't we make it a rule of thumb that if you don't how to configure it, pass it to me. :) (kidding). Yes you have to recompile the kernel. The options you want is under : Processor type and features -->Symmetric multi-processor support (X) processor -->replace X with number of processor on board. -->High memory support -->4Gb Make sure you DO NOT enable ACPI under Power Management Option. Here is my experience with HighMem+ACPI: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...ght=carboncopy |
I use highmem and acpi (no apm) with 2.6.3 and it works fine with my Asus P4S800D motherboard, I guess other hardware might be different though.
