getting samba to run in Slackware

I have the smb.conf copied over and when running testparm--everything checks out. I set it to load the smbd and nmbd services from the inetd file in the /etc dir. However, I can not see it from the network neighborhood on Windows machines and I am having issues seeing it on the smbclient--help!!!

Does the machine name resolve if you ping it by name? Also, are you working with a Domain?
