Getting online...

I just got Slackware 9.1 installed. I have a cable modem, which goes to a router which my computer, and one other computer connect through. How do I go about getting online? Both the router and modem are linksys, which assigns the 192.168.1.xxx addresses to our pc's.

As root, post the results of "ifconfig". Typically for me in the past, two things had to be working in order for me to get on-line:

1) The network interface (eth0 or eth1) had to be "up"
2) I had to start the dhcp service using "dhcpcd ethx" (where x is the number of the network device)

Also, is your router one of those that you manage via it's internal web server? Try opening a browser and open up page http://192.168.1.1.

Search this forum (Linux-Distributions>Slackware) with this keywords:

You will find two or three similar posts.
