Getting New Kernel

I am at a really really BAAAD connection that doesn't allow me to download more than 10 MB. I installed a fresh Slackware 11 and want to try out kernel2.6. I hrd that it comes in the Slackware DVD. But I couldn't find one that was named like the one in Shilo's Guide.
I did try "installpkg kernel-generic-2.6.18-i486-1.tgz"
in the testing folder but nothing happend.
Could someone tell me where to find it in the Slackware 11 DVD or the SUSE 10 DVD. Thanks a lot!
Also whats the best guide to installing the new kernel. Although Shilo's guide is really good, I would like something that tells me what I am doing and why I am doing it.

The best answer to this post would ofcourse be the one that tells me a fantastic method to bypass the 10 MB HTTP GET limit but thats a story for another forum I guess.

Are you on the 2.4 kernel at the moment? If so, why didn't you chose the 2.6 series when installing?

Hi,

To install the 2.6.18 kernel you will need to be in the directory '/testing/packages/linux-2.6.18' on the dvd.

You can get some good reference from slackbasics.

Check my sig for other good online reference.

Another good kernel compile guide is alien_bob's.
