Gdk warnings

Hey all,

I have the following burning error/warning messages whenever I start a
gtk application (at least, that's my humble opinion). Googling hasn't got
me anywhere. If there's anyone who can enlighten me what the **** is
wrong (and what I can do to avoid it) I'd love to hear about it.

The messages I get are:
Code:
bash-3.00$ firefox
(firefox-bin:20636): Gdk-WARNING **: gdk_property_get(): length value
has wrapped in calculation (did you pass G_MAXLONG?)

bash-3.00$ thunderbird
(thunderbird-bin:20734): Gdk-WARNING **: gdk_property_get(): length
value has wrapped in calculation (did you pass G_MAXLONG?)

bash-3.00$ gkrellm
(gkrellm:20797): Pango-CRITICAL **: pango_layout_set_text: assertion
`length == 0 || text != NULL' failed
bash-3.00$
Checking 'ldd <app>' doesn't reveal missing libraries.

I tried reinstalling pango and some gtk/gdk related stuff (forgot
exactly which...). I have the following gtk/gdk related stuff installed:
Code:
Gtk-Perl-0.7009-i386-1
Gtk2-1.082-i386-1
gtk+-1.2.10-i386-3
gtk+2-2.6.8-i486-1
gtk2-perl-1.062-i486-1asz
gtkglext-1.0.6-i386-1
gtkmm-2.4.11-i486-1jed
gdk-pixbuf-0.22.0-i686-4jto
Please, any hint as to what to check or what to (re)install, I'd love to
hear about it!

Cheers, Leon.

Are you using xfce? I get those errors all the time. I think we're just going to have to wait for a new version of XFCE.

No, Fluxbox. Currently from cvs, but the same warnings showed up with other versions.

Any other specs I should provide?

Cheers, Leon.

I really dont know how to fix the problem. I was under the impression those are errors from the actual code in the app, and there wasn't anything you could do about it except wait for them to fix it. But I'm not 100% certain.

I figured out you can do:

touch firefoxerrorlogfile

then:

firefox &> firefoxerrorlogfile &

that will redirect all the errors to the file you created ... I suppose you could also redirect it to /dev/null too

at least that's worked so far

As a newbie I don't understand what to do to correct the error but This might help some of you. I've found It rears it's ugly head in most GUIs. Apparently to do with Mozilla based browsers.
