Gateway set up

I have a desktop and a Laptop, I have a cross cable between them and the net is OK (ping and such) I connect to the net by using modem (ppp0) I want my desktop to serve as a gateway for my laptop but it didn't worked:

Does any one have or knows a *very* good tutorial to do this ??

what you need (basically) is a simple iptables script... here's a place where you can find lots of links to iptables tutorials and howtos:

once you have your iptables script properly set-up, just put it in /etc/rc.d/rc.firewall and make it executable...
