I just installed it from SBo, and everything seems to work. Could you tell us exactly which menus are empty and what does not work (maybe in another thread)?

For instance to use Emacs or Vi as a full text editor instead (or chess simulator for the former =] )?

But i do prefer mcedit over many editors for how quick the learning curve is (for me at least) and how the ncurses interact with X, gpm and still work over serial lines etc.

The MC suite is a prime example of utility over appearance IMO.

You personally probably wouldn't since you already like mcedit, but your post implied that you have to drop back to a terminal if you want to use a different editor. My post was intended to clarify that that is not the case, and in fact it is just as convenient to use a different editor in mc if desired.

Talking kwrite and mcedit

Hi there!

Whenever I'm in a GUI, my editor of choice is kwrite (I happen to like the syntax highlighting). Does that count as Kate? Since kwrite basically uses Kate as a "syntax highlighting engine".

Whenever I'm in the good old CLI, I use mcedit and no other editor.

Sometimes (rather often) when navigating to a folder in Konqueror, I just F4 and mcedit something.

Or if I know the exact path of what I'm looking for, I just open a Konsole terminal and mcedit /where/it/is

My father does. He's running Slackware 14.1 on his laptop, and was delighted to find a wordstar-like already installed. jstar is his everyday-use text editor.

I'm not about to ssh into my shop or garden shed just so I can use a "full text editor" and I'm quite happy with the key bindings I remember when needs be, no need to overtax the remaining memory banks.

Perhaps we could drop this before it becomes more than it is. Its more fun passing the odd jibe to someone I know who prefers the challenge of programming arduinos with emacs over a pot of Guinness before our monthly MLUG than as a tangent off the original topic of this thread.

Yes, I like jstar too, that's why I asked. I use it for writing natural text documents when I don't really want to use a modal editor; programming/editing config files I do in vim (I used to use elvis for that until the switch to utf8 which it doesn't support).

On the desktop: sublime text (missing option in the poll)

Mostly because it is fast, cross-plattform, a work horse for software developers.

In the console I use vi, which in Slackware appears to be elvis *shrugs*

Yeah, that's my bad :-( the second "leafpad" option was supposed to be "other graphical editor" but I screwed up and can't edit the poll. Sorry.
