fresh install (fresh headache)

I made a fresh install of slack using the 4 cd set I bought of 9.1. Last time I did that all went fine and smooth, within a few hours I upgraded to kernel 2.6.x
This time I 'm installing to my 1st HDD (kicked win to the old second hdd) I used the xfs.s kernel and all seems fine until booting.
I get:

Updating module dependencies for Linux 2.4.22-xfs:
depmod: Can't open /lib/modules/2.4.22-xfs/modules for writing
modprobe: Can't open dependencies file ..... (no such file or directory)

the modprobe errors comes back a few times. This is a big prob since I cant modprobe my nic to go online and get the new kernel. Any clues on how to get this system working? I reinstalled a few time but no change.

regards!

Sounds like you're missing the modules directory entirely. You can *try* substituting a plain 2.4.22 kernel's modules directory, but unless the person who compiled it all said "N" to module versioning, they'll be rejected as the wrong version for the 2.4.22-xfs kernel. Somewhere there should be a modules directory for that special -xfs kernel.

I guess I might try an instal using bare kernel. No clue why but for some reason xfs wont work
