I have been trying for days to get freenx installed and am going crazy. I need detailed instructions from anyone who has gotten it working under slack. There is apparently a problem with ssh accepting public key logins from users with no password set on their account(nx). Also every resorce I read seems to have different install locations and home directories for freenx. In addition to that, they all have different methods for setting up the private and publc keys and where to put them and how. I am a fairly good learner and good at troubleshooting...but this is driving me crazy.
Come on guys, someone has to be running freenx on slack. I am so stuck on this, I have followed every step of every guide I have found and am making no progress. ANY help is appreciated at this point.
Woooooohooooo.....I finally got it working....hell of a lot faster than vnc. I ended up finding a thread on a gentoo forum while i was googleing around. While the thread was somewhat old and delt with an older version of freenx and the associated libraries, I was able to use some of the info plus the install directions from the freenx source package to get it working. I believe it was a permissions problem on a few files. The software won't complain about it, but it won't work either.
I am typing this right now from the winXP laptop at my parents house, logged in to my slack box st my home using nx. When I get home I will post the link to the thread that I found and hopefully it will help anyone else who happens to have install problems.

It would be nice if you could post the link you used to get FreeNX working. I am considering installing it instead of using VNC and some reading stuff to get to a decision would be nice

I know I forgot something -- after checking linuxpackages.net and slack.it I stopped at the slackmatic page. Maybe I should take a look at ALL package sites I know first next time, before I think about compiling from source. Thanks Eric for your reminder to your repository and your packages and build scripts (I appreciate them very much) and thanks to UberNUT69 for the links as well.
Good night, time to take some sleep before I slack some more tomorrow
