Question fonts, sblaster and modem

Hi

I just switched to Slack 9.0 from RedHat and have 3 problems.

1. When I installed Slack with KDE I had Slovene fonts in the console, but then I probably changed some setting and they were gone. All I get are question marks. No æèðžš just ?????. Everything works fine in graphical KDE. I had the same problem with RedHat so I switched to gnome, but I would like to use KDE now.

How to change fonts in the console?

2. How do I set up my sound card? In redhat everything was automatic so I never had problems. All I get now is "can't find /dev/dsp".

3. Modem doesn't work either. "Modem not responding". I will try to get some more information about this problem.

All these problems occur with root or user.

Re: fonts, sblaster and modem

1. as root run pkgtool
select setup, as the name and description imply this reruns the setup scripts you saw when you installed slackware.
select the setconslefont and hit ok. This should rerun the the console font configuration.

2. I'm assuming you are not loged in as root and are trying to play some sounds. The problem here is your user doesn't have permission to /dev/dsp. How if fix this is as root run
chmod 666 /dev/dsp
chmod 666 /dev/mixer
If you are not familliar w/ the chmod program run
man chmod
long story short this allows any user to play songs.

3. Sorry, but I have no experience w/ modems under linux.

hope this helps, good luck.
