Font rendering (again)
I already read the whole set of posts in the forum and lurked the whole net in search for it, still I have these HORRIFYING set of fonts stomping around the monitor...
basically it looks like font rendering in my just updated (9.1) slack doesn't wanna work right.
I know I solved the prob with gnome2.2. The problem is I don't recall HOW I did... DOH.
I would really appreciate any hint about the problem.
It tells you everything you want to know/
I just copied all of my windows true type fonts into the /usr/X11/lib/fonts/TTF/ directory and executed fc-cache as root. You can also reboot if that didn't work since fc-cache is run on startup.
In Gnome, you then have to set Gnome to use the new fonts in your Desktop Preferences->Fonts.
In KDE, you might have to go into KDE Control Center as root and in the System Administration section->Font Installer to update the fonts KDE uses.
You could also update Gnome by installing http://www.dropline.net/gnome/ which has some (not all) the Microsoft True Type Fonts. Plus you get i686 optimized versions of a whole crap load of software.
I'll give it a shot...
This is very weirdest whatsoever. See, I did (I think) the same thing @ home, on my personal pc, and everything works just fine, fonts included.
Here @ work, the fonts are just horrible..
I have to set my gnome -dpi to 60 and the fonts up to size 16 to have a nice smooth effect... it looks like when i set the font (any of them) size lower than 16 it starts to look funky.
What on sacre earth m I missing?
well well... this really threw me off...
My screen fonts started to display ok after I started KDE3.1 then went back to GNOME2.4...
Probably Gnome could'nt start the font renderer?
Opinions? This could be an interesting subject... :)
Here's what I see now...
I just LOVE it... !:D
Happy slackin' :D
