I'm surprised so many run fluxbox ... thought most people ran kde or dropline ... anyway ...
Mod1 is Alt
Mod4 is the Window$ key
Control is Control
Here's my menu, this is actually an older version because I seem to have misplaced the one from Slackware 11.0 after upgrading to Slackware 12.0 . This one will do for now until I find the longer, enhanced version, this one is quite simple, nothing tricky:
H_TeXMeX_H, I just noticed in your menu you have an entry for k3b and one to start kde. I started to do that once and then thought, "why not just have an entry for KDE's kicker?" That works great for me. I can launch the kicker and pull up my Kmenu same as if I had started KDE.
FluxBox Rocks! One interesting thing is recently I had a computer upgrade from
a older desktop with 512mb-ram to a dual-core rockin laptop.I always used fluxbox on the
old box because of the low memory. Then after getting the laptop, I used kde for a while.
But couple weeks ago I went back to fluxbox.I was really missing it's lightning speed and
simplicity! But everything's cool and love fluxbox all over again.
One funny thing is that some guys on this thread are competing for who has a shorter menu. lol
One thing that I enjoy about mine is the ability to set the wallpaper independently of the style.
That's a great idea, but there is a bit of a problem. Although you can choose your wallpaper from a menu, what about the wallpaper that comes up when you start fluxbox ? I wonder if there's a way to save the changes somehow, so that the same one comes up as last time. Maybe a well designed script could do it ... I'll have to look into that.

Yeah, I guess I could do that, but I don't really use kde apps that often. k3b is one of the only kde apps I use, simply because it is the most reliable at burning CDs and DVDs without any coasters left over.

fbsetbg has a -l option to use the "last-used" wallpaper, which is defined in the file .fluxbox/lastwallpaper. I think that'll do it but I haven't tried it because I don't change my background. My computer is called Chimera and I keep a picture of one as the background. In my .fluxbox/init, session.screen0.rootCommand is set to fbsetbg -l -a

I see your point. I almost never use kde apps when I'm using Fluxbox. In fact, I try not to, but XCD-Roast just can't compete with k3b. Even when I do use KDE the only real kde app I use is k3b.

That's a great idea, and it works. Now I can change my wallpaper dynamically and it stays the next time I startx. Thanks for the tip.
menu (generate by fluxbox-generate_menu and edited by hand later). Terminals of all sizes, colors and positions
Code:
# Generated by fluxbox-generate_menu
#
# If you read this it means you want to edit this file manually, so here
# are some useful tips:
#
# - You can add your own menu-entries to ~/.fluxbox/usermenu
#
# - If you miss apps please let me know and I will add them for the next
# release.
#
# - The -r option prevents removing of empty menu entries and lines which
# makes things much more readable.
#
# - To prevent any other app from overwriting your menu
# you can change the menu name in ~/.fluxbox/init to:
# session.menuFile: ~/.fluxbox/my-menu

Regardless of the particular distro or window manager, I use m for the mail client, t for the terminal, e for the editor, and so on. That way, I don't have to memorize a new set of key bindings over and over again.
Now I just need to get pulseaudio working with fluxbox... That and get sudo configured so as to get an option to shutdown in my menu (well, one that works anyway).
What problem are you having with Pulseaudio? It should work seamlessly regardless of the DE/WM.
As regards shutting down, I just issue a shutdown command as root from a terminal after closing all the programs that must be closed (such as keepassx--if it's not closed, it leaves a lockfile behind).

Must have been a brief error as pulseaudio appears to be working fine today. Oh well. Finally have fluxbox configured where I want it.
