Question flash drive??

Hey, i just install Slackware on my toshiba a65-1068 laptop and everything seem to work okay until i plug in my flash drive. The machine just froze and i had to turn the power off but when i turn it back on i got no video. i wanted to know if any of you had a similar problem or the reasons for something like this happening. I really don't want to have to put back windows or try any other distro.

Thanks in advance...

Welcome to LQ!

Which version of Slackware did you install?
Are you running the default kernel?
What is the make and model of your flash drive?
Is it USB 1.1 or USB 2.0?
What is the output of "lsmod" and "/sbin/lspci" as user?

I have a Toshiba A65-S126, and don't know if these two units
might have compatible hardware.

I am not running a default kernel, though I do have a 2.4.31
default from Slackware -current on that box. I have no problems
with either my On-data 128MB flash or a Lexar 256MB jump drive.

We'll probably need more information to help you with this issue,
but this is a good starting place...

Talking

Hey,thanks for the help
Well, the situation has change a bit since last time. I reinstall Slackware 10.1 on my laptop but this time around i didn't enable hotplug at boot. Some of the things i try are:
1- added and later remove from /etc/fstab

/dev/sda1 /mnt/usb vfat user,auto 0 0
Code:
modprobe usb-storage
mount /mnt/usb
but this didn't work.

2-
Code:
chmod 755 /etc/rc.d/rc.hotplug
shutdown -r now
One thing i notice from the second step is that if the flash drive is plug in, i'll get no video so i have to unplug, turn the power off and restart again if it is.

my fstab looks like:

/dev/hda1 swap swap defaults 0 0
/dev/hda2 / ext2 defaults 1 1
/dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom iso9660 noauto,owner,ro 0 0
/dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy auto noauto,owner 0 0
devpts /dev/pts devpts gid=5,mode=620 0 0
proc /proc proc defaults 0 0

the kernel i pick during install was /cdrom/kernels/bareacpi.i/bzImage

The answer probably lies in /var/log/messages

when you plug one of your drives in, what gets reported in messages?

What does lsusb report?
Is your ohci/ehci/... usb bus reported in lsmod?
