Unlike with some other distros, there is no central Slackware repository and definitely no 'apt-get'-like command that would allow you to fetch programs without any effort. There is slackpkg, which you can download from an official Slackware mirror in slackware-12.0/extra/slackpkg, but I've never used it and therefore cannot help you. You could download all of the packages (all of the .tgz files) in the x/, xap/ (and t/ if you want) directories and install those packages and you should be set (assuming you don't want to install KDE -- if you do, you've also need to download the packages in the kde/ directory. You don't need KDE to run XFCE, which is included in the xap/ directory).
My advice to you would be to run the following commands:
Code:
$ mkdir ~/slackware
$ rsync -a rsync.osuosl.org::slackware-12.0/slackware/x ~/slackware
$ rsync -a rsync.osuosl.org::slackware-12.0/slackware/xap ~/slackware
$ rsync -a rsync.osuosl.org::slackware-12.0/slackware/t ~/slackware
That will download all of the packages that you need to run X Windows and XFCE.
Then, as root, navigate to the newly created slackware directory and type the following:
Code:
# upgradepkg --install-new ./*/*.tgz
(Note that you could also use `installpkg ./*/*.tgz` instead of upgradepkg -- I'm just covering all bases in case you downloaded any packages already, just so it won't screw up the package management).
