firmware for intel 2200 BG

I am currently trying to install the firmware for my 2200 BG intel integrated card. The problem I am having though is that I dont know what to do with the firmware in fact. I put them in /etc/hotplug/firmware (or wherever you are supposed to for slackware) I think, but that didnt seem to work. Do I have to install the firmware or something? Or do I have to update the hotplug list? I tried to run /sbin/hotplug and that didnt work (I think it said that ocmmand did not exist). Does anybody know how to fix this?

The README in the ipw2200 package has the details of where to put the firmware. As long as hotplug is started upon boot
Code:
chmod +x /etc/rc.d/rc.hotplug
you should be good to go.

Firmware goes in:
/usr/lib/hotplug/firmware

how to make a start up script

I was wondering if you could suggest the location of the file that listst he programs that startup at boot so that I could check and see if hotlplug is started. But sicne I am quite a newbie to linux that the command you listed would add that automatically and I am jsut being stupid. Thanks again though for your helpful post.

Your startup scripts are in /etc/rc.d
Generally, they start on boot if they are executable.

ls -l /etc/rc.d/

chmod +x file
marks it globally executable.

In slack 10.1 the firmware goes into:

/lib/firmware (took me a while to figure that one out)

I do not know the reason for the change, but it seems to be general, as it is the same in SUSE 9.2

firmware location by 2200 BG driver

I understand that the location of the firmware has changed in Slack 10.1, but should I have to modify any part fo the driver to know that the firmware is located in this different file?
