Firewall Help!


I have a Squid running as my firewall. The purpose why we setup a firewall is to prevent our employees inside our network from sending information to other network. As of the moment, they can only go to our website. My problems are:

1. How do I let them browse other site without letting them send files?
2. How do we allow them to use email and prevent them from attaching files?

You do know that Squid is a proxy server and NOT a firewall don't you?

As far I am aware Squid cannot filter attachments from emails etc.

What you want is a packet shaper / email filter.

Note
You can grant/deny access for the any mention of zip in the URL using the 'URL Regexp' option, but this is a blanket ban and will stop anything with the a zi & p in the URL.

Ups! From the begining i thought this is a proxy and firewall. So is there any software preferably open source that you suggest i use as a firewall for our company?

If you want to set up a quickfirewall on a Linux box use 'iptables' its a command line based firewall that seems to be included on all linux ditros. Couple that with Webmin (a remote admin tool) to get a gui. (http://www.webmin.com)

it says here that proxy server is a type of firewall. please check http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/Firewall-HOWTO-2.html#ss2.2

i'm having a hard time looking for program, firewall, proxy whatever that can prevent email attachments. we have a pop3 account and also users can just go to internet sites and do the mail there. please help

I am not aware of any 1 product that can do all that.
