Firestarter installation problem...

Hey All,

Been lurking, and slowly configuring my Slack10 install, and finally got around to downloading Firestarter and readying for the installation. I downloaded it from Slackcare, and it supposedly has all of the libraries, etc. needed to reolve dependencies, etc.

I ran pkgtool, and it appeared to do something, and later I discovered that it had in fact created a shortcut in the system menu for Firestarter. Once I click that though, things go awry. It says that my gtku (sp) is not installed, blah blah blah.

Do I need to individually download and install each of the dependent libraries/utilities before I install this file? I thought it was all included in the Slackcare package.

Maybe I just have not had enough coffee yet this morning...

Thanks, Head

Update

I opened up kPackage, and it says that all of the dependent files , as well as Firestarter, are installed already.

Do I need to do something to make these files executable or something?

I hate switching back to windows just to post questions, etc. Once I get Slack hack-proofed I'll be using it all of the time!

Go to linuxpackages.net and download firestarter, then run pkgtool and install it. After that as root type /usr/bin/firestarter. Should work, its the first thing i install on a new system and i have never had any dep errors. I would definetly try grabbing the package from linuxpackages, net maybe the one you have is corrupt.

Thanks Phat

Phat,

It definitely works as root, I need to work on my permissions so as to enable it to work for a normal user.

I seem to remember some having problems with Firestarter in KDE, also. Do you know if that has been resolved?

Once I can get a Gnome ppp dialer set, I'll probably just use Gnome though,

Thanks, Head

Firestarter Up & Blocking!

Thanks Phat,

Firestarter is up and jammin'. It's really amazing how many hits I recorded in only a few minutes of being up. Really scary... cool, at least I can surf in relative peace. Anyway, I need to do some system hardening, and make this thing a little more bullet proof.

Thanks for the help, this is STILL alot of fun to play with, and I am learning something in the meantime.

Head
