The good thing about plugger (and the mozplugger derivative) is that it can also embed pdf readers, like xpdf and kpdf right in the browser ... pretty neat

There is a FF add-onn (what else... ) called PDF Download that lets you choose what to do with a .PDF file (download it or view it in the browser).
I don't use it anymore nowadays (I always download 'em), but it works great!
