Firefox 4.0b7

Firefox 4.0b7 is out. I am compiling it now. First though, I had to update cairo and pixman. Cairo was easy enough modifying the slackbuild, but pixman was a peta. I couldn't find a slackbuild, so I had to really modify one. It worked, though, building pixman first, then cairo.

The FF build has been going for about 10 minutes, so I know it has a way to go. I just couldn't wait to do this, so I jumped in head first! :)

Daedra's, post for 'Beautiful Fonts in 12.1' is a post that everyone should look at. Good reference!

The 'The Perfect Desktop - Slackware 12' is a good install example that may assist in the installing of SlackwareŽ 12.1.
Plus look at Dugan's http://www.vcn.bc.ca/~dugan/slackware-fonts/ for some useful tips.

Some of the above links have been updated.

Well - its alive! And, it seems to be well. Time now to just navigate and see how well it renders pages and if there is any speed increase. My extensions seem to be working still, along with the noia extreme theme. Happy so far!

FWIW Mozilla provides builds for x86_64 along with their i686 ones for nightly trunk:
http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.o.../latest-trunk/

So if anyone wants to try out firefox 4, theres no need to compile it, furthermore theres no need to compile and upgrade additional packages.

PS. It would be better to backup ~/.mozilla before upgrading to it.
It will save you the trouble if you ever want to revert to the stable 3.6.x series at any point.

Two things I've noticed so far:
1. The progress bar at the bottom is now missing.
2. I can't open a blank tab anymore from the right side of an existing tab.

Can't find anyway to fix either just yet. Other than that, it seems to be a great release towards final.

Fixed the progress bar. It was removed in b7 and replaced with an add-on bar. Had to download an extension called Status-4-Evar to add progress functionality. Now to see if I can't find out why the little plus sign is missing from the right side of the tabs.

Mlangdn, my firefox compile ( using -current slackbuild ) indicates that my cairo should be at => 1.10 but the cairo site only has 1.8.8 as latest ( which I have from my gsb install ). Can you give some more info on your build in relation to this?

Try this one:

Thanks Mlangdn, I decided to wait until the official package came out. Few issues though:

1. tab groups not working ( using ctrl-e or View -> Tab Groups )
2. bookmark folders in the bookmark toolbar do not expand

Any ideas welcome

Hmmmmm...... I can issue ctrl-e and get tab groups. Or in View > Tab Groups

I don't have bookmark folders anywhere. I don't have enough to bother with organization.

Also, FF-4.0b7 is now in /testing.

I logged in as root and all was well so I assumed this was something to do with my profile - took the plunge and started with a fresh profile ( after saving bookmarks, addons and certs ). All is well now after a bit of work.

Glad that's all sorted!
