Yep. I should have warned about the mimes. Reading with more care I saw Mr.Raharjo is very well versed in Slackware/Linux, and in fact, he asked for some completely different thing... my bad.

Well Willy may want to try the SlackBuild as it would not hurt. Granted, seeing as how fresh mozilla sources and a fresh profile do not seem to be working, even an official Slackware package may not work for his system. Had any luck yet, Willy?

Hey fellows, I encounter this problem too. And I didn't find any solution. But today I upgraded kernel to 2.6.30.1 (custom build with some patches) and install suitable NVidia binary drivers - 185.18.14, and then encounter problems with starting kde. You can search these forums for keywords "nvidia libsafe" and see many interesting results.
So I commented out libsafe.so in the /etc/ld.so.preload and got working firefox 3.5!
Distro - Slackware x86 current
ENjoy!

You are welcome! =)
I'm in doubt - is it completely safe to disable libsafe? Whether it would be potential security hole?
JFYI - the Opera browser too is NOT fully compatible with the libsafe.

Yeah, i had this on my mind too
i was wondering whether Firefox 3.5 uses insecure C functions so that when libsafe works by replacing with secure functions, it broke the application

Hello! I had the same problem with firefox-3.5. I tried your decision and i have success. When i commented libsafe in /etc/ld.so.preload firefox starts and works. There is something that i cannot understend. Why firefox-3.5 works on so many systems and not in mine (ours )
I made a file /etc/libsafe.exclude where i put a line "/usr/bin/firefox" and "/usr/lib/firefox-3.5/firefox-bin", which should preserve firefox form libsafe, and restored the /etc/ld.so.preload. Firefox cannot starts in this case eighter.

it seems that when you restored your /etc/ld.so.preload entry, it will be active and blocks Firefox when it's executed. So the best thing to do is to comment the entry on /etc/ld.so.preload if you need Firefox 3.5

When Firefox 3.5 launched the first time, the What's New stated:
Quote:
Watch This!
Firefox 3.5 is the first browser to support open video formats, allowing movies to become part of today’s dynamic web pages without requiring a plug-in. Go ahead – give it a try.
|
However, it did NOT play the video, it just forwarded to this page.
Apparently the link is incorrect. You can go here to see it.
Should we contact them and add it to the bug report?

I for some times have been using Mozilla's package rather Slackware's package due to inability to do automatic updates
