Finishing up KDE 3.2 upgrade

I just installed KDE 3.2.2 using konstruct and I almost have it working but there are a few things I cant seem to figure out. First I can't start up KDE without using /usr/src/kde3.2.2/bin/kde -nodaemon. I have tried startkde which just doesnt work and i tried to change the link on xinitrc to use startx but i dont have a xinitrc.kde file.

The second problem is I cannot log on as anyone but root. The other users say something like only root wants to execute kde. Lastly, when I log on I get a login window which is helpfull now since only root can start kde, but I dont really want it.
Any ideas?

P.S. I reinstalled slack 9.1 and when i did i lost my nice shell that told me what directory i was in. Now I only get bash-2.05b$. How do I get my old one back?

Alright, it took me awhile but I figured everything out. If anyone has the same problem here is what I did.
I created my own initrc.kde file by using the one from gnome, deleting the last line that said exec gnome-session and adding this:

export QTDIR=/usr/local/kde3.2.2
export KDEDIR=/usr/local/kde3.2.2
export KDEDIRS=/usr/local/kde3.2.2
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/local/kde3.2.2/lib
export PATH=/usr/local/kde3.2.2/bin:$PATH

exec startkde

The first 5 lines allow the command startkde to work and the last one boots it. I have kde installed to /usr/local/ so that may need to be changed.
After I saved that file I deleted the old initrc and made a new one linking to initrc.kde by typing:
ln -s /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.kde /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc

logout and type startx and your ready to go

still working on that bash though...
