Files

Hi all slackers,
This questions might sound dumb. I have tried to installed a software in my slack box. However, it has a problem of reading the license file.
I have checked the system clock and the hardware clock and made sure they are matched. The software guy made one more suggestion: to check any files in /etc and /var that are "dated in the future", and use "touch" to fix them.
My questions are:
1. Is it possible that some system files are dated in the future?
2. How can I find them, as there are lots of files in these directories?

Thanks for your help in advance.

Best,

Dukeman

As a quick and dirty, you could do something like:
touch /tmp/now
find /etc /var -type f -newer /tmp/now

which ought to show files modified in the future (in addition to any that change between the time you touch the file and run the find) but to be honest, it doesn't sound like a likely cause of your problem. If the 'software guy' can't tell you specifically which files the license validation routines checks for timestamps against then I'd be inclined to think he was making it up as he goes along.
