File associations

Using Gaim 2 beta 2 and they have now got the open button working in the file transfer window.

Problem is when I get sent images they open in konqueror when I would prefer xv. I've changed file associations in KDE control centre and I've tried editing ~/.mailcap to no avail

Where else might these associations or mime types be set?

There are no options for this except browser in gaim itself and nobody seems to know on the gaim forum

how about *.desktop files?
$KDEDIR/share/applications/kde/
or another *.desktop files maybe?

After some checking around I find that, depending on what it finds first, gaim will either run a command thru kfmclient, or gnome-open.
Problem with kfmclient is that it is too tied in with konqueror and starts most files with it. Gnome-open will only work is a gnome-session is running.

As I use fluxbox and kde its the kfmclient that runs so I find everything opens in konqueror, when I would rather have xv for images, xmms for mp3s and perhaps use konqueror for everything else.

Can't see any way out of it for now. A gaim file association plugin would be a nice idea.
