Unhappy file alteration monitor configuration

hi everyone.

i have searched the net and these forums, and have
checked the man pages for fam, but i could not find
a way to have fam update more frequently than it
does now. for me it updates every 1.xx seconds or
so; i would prefer it to be instantanious.

does anyone have an idea to how i would accomplish this?

ok. i did a reinstall of slackware; this time i did a full install
which resulted in the portmap module + fam being properly
installed. changes to files are now shown near instantly.
