FF 3.6.4 -> FF 3.6.6 then Flashplayer stopped working
Yesterday I used slackupdate.sh [0.7.3] from darklinux.net to update Slackware 13.1, 32 bit version. I got Firefox 3.6.6, installed it, moved the libflashplayer.so to the new plugins directory. Now I can't play utube videos. about: plugins says that flashplayer is installed and working. Grabbed flash from Adobe website, overwrote the existing one, still no joy. Asked in the Firefox user forum. Answer 'same thing happen to me -- Windows Vista' ...
I'm not an advanced user. So, is this a Slackware problem, an Adobe problem, or a Firefox problem? I'm asking here because y'all are more likely to point me to a solution. I've always been able to grab the Linux version of Flash from Adobe website and install it without any issues. Tia. The GNUinator |
Hi,
You didn't say where you copy the flash plugin, but it's better to put the firefox plugins in /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins. Regards |

/usr/lib/firefox-{version}/plugins/ I ask again, is this a Slackware problem, an Adobe problem, or a Firefox problem?... Some Windows users in the Firefox users help forums are reporting the same problem - they upgraded FF version and immediately Flash stopped working. Anyway I rolled back from FF 3.6.6 -> FF 3.6.3 and now, of course, Flash is working again. I won't upgrade FF again until somebody finds the bug and fixes it. |
FWIW, I'm using Slackware64 13.1 with the multilib stuff. I'm running 32bit Firefox 3.6.6 and Flash works fine. I too put the plugin in /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins. You don't have to change anything then when you upgrade the browser.

There is no bug AFAICT. I'm using 2 different boxes, running 32 and 64 bit Slackware and have no problem with the flash plugin.
Just put the FF plugins in /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins and that's all. Well, on the 64bit Slackware I use /usr/lib64/mozilla/plugins for the same. Unfortunately I still have to use the previous flash version (10.0 r45) that had some security problems, because I don't want to mess with 32bit libs. Regards |
I too lost libflashplayer.so when I updated to current (firefox-3.6.3 to 3.6.6). I just downloaded the tar.gz package from adobe again and extracted it to /usr/lib/firefox-3.6.6/plugins directory.

Windows XP
The flash plugin for Firefox on Windows XP also stopped working yesterday, same as you, when Firefox upgraded to 3.6.6 ... so it does not seem to be a Linux-specific problem.

SOLVED: FF 3.6.4 -> FF 3.6.6 then Flashplayer stopped working
