External monitor resolution problem!

Hi

I would really appreciate the help on this one.

Lcd screen of my Asus UL30 laptop broke. Now i have BenQ 1366x768 monitor attached through VGA. (Integrated Intel® GMA X4500MHD)

Problem is the 1024x768 resolution in external monitor.

Any command in console to force the resolution to 1366x768 and maybe make it permanent.

Tried searching the answer but well here i am.

Try adding ' video=VGA-1:1366x768e' as a kernel option when booting. To make the change permanent, add it to the 'append=' line in /etc/lilo.conf and rerun lilo. For further details see /usr/src/linux/Documentation/fb/modedb.txt

No success yet.

Now running another LG 1280x1024 monitor with the 1024x768 resolution. Is there a .log file to look at and see the light.

I have been experimenting with my netbook with an Intel 945GM graphics controller. If I plug an external monitor into the VGA port and boot with a kernel option 'video=<x res>x<y res>' where <x res> and <y res> are display resolutions supported by the external monitor then the external monitor switches to the required resolution during boot. Trying to specify the display output does not appear to have an effect.
I suggest you try with ' video=1366x768'
