external encrypted drives do not mount reliably on boot

Hi,

I just upgraded a desktop computer to 14.1. I have three external, luks encrypted hard drives listed in /etc/crypttab which have always opened fine on boot. Now with 14.1 they do not always open on boot, or sometimes one or two open but not the others. Once the system is booted I can manually open the partitions and mount them.

It seems like some kind of a timing problem, maybe. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks,
Brian

If it's a timing problem you can try experimenting with the "-w [secs]" option of mkinitrd (I suppose you're using initrd for LUKS support at boot).

I never have a problem with the root drive (encrypted) and since the external drives don't get opened until after initrd exits I didn't think it could be related to initrd. I will try anyway when I get back to the system.

Thanks,
Brian

So I have rebooted the system several times since the last post and the drives seem to be mounting okay. I didn't do anything, so I guess it was just one of those "settling in" things after the upgrade.

Thanks,
Brian
