expunge kde from -current slackware

Diantre wrote a great response to this question when I asked it in relation to my (then) SW-64bit 14.0 installation.

I need to ask it again, this time with -current in mind.

I take it this time the comments Diantre made about altering the install media are not relevant, as now I'm upgrading from -current repository.

I need to know how to:

1. completely expunge my -current installation of KDE; and
2. change my settings so that when I next upgrade -current, I won't download any kde

Thanks kindly,

Use pkgtool or the removepkg command to remove the kde packages.

As for updating your media to not have the kde/ and kdei/ disk sets, what is your media? I rsync to a USB key, so I use the --exclude options, I think. Once I get back to the PC that I use for rsync, I can post the actual script that invokes rsync for my local Slackware rsync mirror.

Code:

slackpkg remove kde

thanks ponce and mlslk

Problem solved!
I simply re-installed, then upgraded to current, without kde.

I would appreciate the resync script, mlslk.

OK, here's the script, which you'll want to adapt to your local storage and nearby mirror.

Code:

#!/bin/sh
rsync -av --delete --progress rsync://rsync.gtlib.gatech.edu/slackware/slackware-current/ /media/uGeneral/slackware-current/ --exclude source/kde --exclude source/kdei --exclude slackware/kde --exclude slackware/kdei

In this script...

/media/uGeneral is the mount point of the USB key.
rsync.gtlib.gatech.edu is the closest mirror to me.
The / at the end of directory names makes a difference. Keep them.
