Ethernet NIC ADSL Modem Disaster :(
 

I have had a frustrating day trying to set-up my ethernet adsl modem with Slackware 10.1 and SLAMD64 10.1 rc2 - with an Asus Av8 Deluxe mobo.

The ethernet module was not loaded during setup, so I did a modprobe for the sk98lin driver (the correct driver for my Yukon Marvell Gigabit ethernet). I also added this module to the rc.modules to load every start-up.

During boot, eth0 is discovered correctly.

I have also enabled dhcp via netconfig and a manual check of rc.inet1.conf. DHCP is enabled and this also starts at boot-up. The mac address is listed during the boot log.

Checking ifconfig locates the eth0 card.

I have tried stopping of rc.inet1 and then a restart.

I have tried running #dhcpcd (in addition to the dhcp load during boot).

I have tried #ping www.google.com and #ping 216.239.37.99 both without success.

The ethernet light on the modem is not shining brightly :(

(I have no problems with SuSE and the ethernet/modem whenever I reboot to continue more internet research on this problem).

I updated the Slack 10.1 kernel to 2.6.10 and this did not help either.

Further ideas to resolve would be fantastic!

After experiencing the speed of Slamd64, it is hard to go back to SUSE 9.3.

Problem solved with the purchase of a new NIC.

I have exactly the same mobo, nic and problems. I was hoping you had the solution for this...

I also have same hardware, but have not gone 64bit route yet...

However my reason for posting is that the skge driver is getting more support in linux development than the sk98lin driver. It works perfectly in 32bit. I believe that it has 64 bit support. Surprisingly the kernel docs do not give info on the skge driver in the docs section, but I recommend that you investigate. There is no reason why you cant have both drivers compiled as modules, and select which one you want (with the relevant entries in /etc/modprobe.conf and /etc/hotplug/blacklist - at least thats what I did)
