etc-5.1-noarch-8

In the slackware-current directory there is an upgrade package etc-5.1-noarch-8.

Would upgrading to this package wipe out important files in /etc?

Does anybody know what the changes were/are?

New configuration files have the extension ".new" (for example rc.S.new), so nothing will be overwritten.
You can search for them with find / -name "*.new".

From UPGRADE.TXT in the Slackware root directory:
Quote:
6. Fix your config files. Some of the config files in /etc are going to
need your attention. You'll find the new incoming config files on
your system with the ".new" extension. You may need to fill these in
with information from your old config files and then move them over.

Mostly cleanups/fixes.
Patrick recently added new groups (audio, video and cdrom) to /etc/group

Thanks for the reply.

I will have a detailed look to see if they add any benefit before upgrading. It's reassuring to know that even if I install them I can pick and choose which ones I run with.

Thanks
