Error trying to run KDE 3.5.2
 

I just attempted to upgrade my KDE to 3.5.2 from the Slackware-current tree. I also upgraded X11 to 6.9 from the same tree. I ran ldconfig after the upgrade. When trying to launch KDE I receive the error: "error loading shared libraries libstdc++.so.6" I have googled this error and I'm having a little trouble tracking it down. I also upgraded my glibc libraries per the Slackware-current docs.
Any help would be most appreciated.

I had exactly the same problem. Interestingly enough libstdc was in place. I'm using my slack for development. I ended up downloading the sources and compiling KDE from scratch. Anyways, I played with it just out of a curiousity as normally I'm happy and satisfied Dropline Gnome user which I really recommend because of stability and speed. KDE sux compared to it.

I found the answer. Evidently, I had to upgrade the cxxlibs-6.0.3-i486-1.tgz package found in Slackware-current under the 'a' series of packages. That solved the libstdc++.so.6 issue. KDE now starts. Unfortunately artsd sound system crashes on startup. So.... Off to track down that one....

I find it best with upgrading KDE to get the lastest version actually built for the Slackware version that I want to install it on. You can get such packages either from the KDE site or from 'Linuxpackages' site.

I had the same problem but i guess i found an easier solution. Just find a copy of the missing library(Thats available with openoffice2.0 so if you have that installed its already on your system) Just copy the library file to any of the directories thats on your ld.so.conf
thats just it!! that should get you up and running in no time..

I had the same problem, don't just upgrade the kde download all the folders in slackware and install them all, and to fix the libstdc just install the new d tree from the current. Do a full current upgrade is what I am trying to say

It may also be wise to downgrade whatever you took from -current back down to 10.2. Generally you shouldn't mix and match because -current packages will be compiled against whatever libraries are in -current.
