error running eclipse with stock jvm!

Hi all:

I've just download the lastest eclipse from www.eclipse.org and I was trying to run it with the stock version of java jvm install on slackware 9.1, the jvm is located at /usr/lib/java

however, when I try to run eclipse by doing the following:

eclipse -vm /usr/lib/java

it complains that it cannot find the jvm on the machine, any ideas?

What you're doing *should*, in theory work (in fact, you shouldn't even really need the "-vm" switch).

But the easiest solution is probably to download and install the latest 1.4.x JVM from Sun.

It will help you get up/running with the least hassle now; it'll probably cause you the least amount of grief as you start doing more sophisticated things with Eclipse (like the Java debugger, which can be *very* sensitive about JVM version, for example).

another thing is that if you make a symlink to /usr/bin and then execute eclipse, that it won't work... You have to 'cd' to your eclipse dir and execute ./eclipse from there.
