Error playing DVDs

I get the following error when trying to play DVDs

libdvdread: Invalid IFO for title 1 (VTS_01_0.IFO).
xiTK received SIGSEGV signal, RIP.
I believe I have all the proper packages

I'm using slackware64 (if you hadn't noticed from the package names). I have tried running as root and still no luck, I didn't expect that to matter anyway. I have tried with xine, dragon and gxine. All have the same problem, I can watch the intro but it fails out when it tries to load the menu.

This error should be fixed in the version of libdvdread that I compile into my VLC package. Try to download the vlc package here: http://slackware.org.uk/3rd-party/al...lc/pkg64/13.0/ and see if that plays your DVD.

This might be a specially copy protected DVD.

As a personal preference I almost always use mplayer - but it will probably also try to use the same libdvdread which fails to read this DVD.
I'd therefore not expect it to work better than the other players, but I'd try.

I have had succes with a DVD (wall-e) which could be played, but not be ripped correctly, by using "wine" and a windows-progam "dvdfab".

That is all I can contribute.

Depending on how mplayer for Slackware was built it might indeed be worth a try.
AFAIK it uses - if not told otherwise - internal versions of libdvdread, libdvdnav and libdvdcss - which (again: might) be the source of your problem.

I don't know Slackware at all!
Trying to upgrade/use different versions of those libs could help, if this happens frequently for you.

This applies to all DVD's:
REGION 1 -- USA, Canada
REGION 2 -- Japan, Europe, South Africa, Middle East, Greenland
REGION 3 -- S.Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Parts of South East Asia
REGION 4 -- Australia, New Zealand, Latin America (including Mexico)
REGION 5 -- Eastern Europe, Russia, India, Africa
REGION 6 -- China
REGION 7 -- Reserved for Unspecified Special Use
REGION 8 -- Reserved for Cruise Ships, Airlines, etc...
REGION 0 or REGION ALL -- Discs are uncoded and can be played Worldwide, however, PAL discs must be played in a PAL-compatible unit and NTSC discs must be played in an NTSC-compatible unit.

My suggestion is, Try smplayer but first build your own mplayer.

Note: Content Scramble System (CSS) is a Digital Rights Management (DRM) scheme used on almost all commercially produced DVD-Video discs. It utilizes a proprietary 40-bit stream cipher algorithm
