Error messages with Chestnut dialer and WVDial

Keep getting the following error message when I try using my dialup connection using a serial modem and Chestnut Dialer:

ATZ
OK
AT
OK
ATM1L3
OK
ATDT3081000
CONNECT 45333/ARQ/V90/LAPM/V42BIS
Serial connection established.
Using interface ppp0
Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/ttyS0
Remote message: Password validation failure
PAP authentication failed
Modem hangup
Connection terminated.

I've entered the username/password into the program. Anyone know a solution? Thanks.

I installed WVDial as an alternative but I get the following error message with that:

root@wolvix ~ # wvdial
--> WvDial: Internet dialer version 1.56 (root@darkstar)
--> Initializing modem.
--> Sending: ATZ
ATZ
OK
--> Sending: ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0
ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0
OK
--> Modem initialized.
--> Configuration does not specify a valid phone number.
--> Configuration does not specify a valid login name.
--> Configuration does not specify a valid password.

Again I entered my username/password into the /etc/wvdial.conf file and saved it. Don't know what's wrong here either. Thanks.

can you post your conf files? X out your AccessNumber/usernames/password if you post them though. what are the file permissions of the conf files?

i doubt file permissions since it is grabbing the other info...
