err, eth0: ioctl SIOCSIFFLAGS: Cannot assign requested address

I dont know how I got this error. I just booted up the computer, and there it was. It was working fine the last time I used it. Hardware address is now 00:00:00:00:00:00 when I run ifconfig eth0 command. Is it broken?

Last time I saw this was due to a dead NIC. Same error with the zeroed out mac. Try inserting a new one before you waste countless hours debugging a dead card like I did. :)

Thanks man. That laptop is dying on us. CD drive too is dead. So I figured it was a dead nic card...

Ok thanks,
