Epson XP-400 wireless printing working Slackware 14.1
Hi Peeps,
Just thought I'd share this little tit-bit. It has taken me two days on and off to sort this out - anyway this is what did the trick.
The printer is an Epson XP-400 series with wireless capability. There is no driver for this printer in the default install of CUPS. Epson provide drivers for this printer in the form of *rpm, *deb and src. I tried the rpm2tgz approach and although CUPS detects the printer and I could ping it, there was no output from it.
So I uninstalled that one and downloaded the src package. Following the instructions on the slack wiki I built a slackware package and installed that.
That still didn't work. something about "cups couldn't execute a filter". Anyway a bit of searching and it seems that the /usr/lib/cups/* MUST be owned by root. It turns out that the filter folder in /usr/lib/cups was set to my ownership!!. so a quick chown -R root.root /usr/lib/cups/filter and then back up to /usr/lib and the same command (more or less ) on the cups folder.
'Spose I could have done it all with one command in /usr/lib - but hey ho :-).
Anyway I restarted the cups deamon "/etc/rc.d/rc.cups restart" and pressed the print button. Blow me it worked!!!!!!!!
