device `plustek:libusb:002:003' is a Epson Perfection 1250/Photo flatbed scanner

It has been a while since I had to fight with a scanner and things have changed a great deal since then, ie udev and hal arrived and are on the way out.

Anyway, neither xsane or skanlite can detect it. Any pointers?

The obvious question, are you a member of the scanner group?

I told you it was a while since I had had to fight with a scanner.

I added myself to scanner and the scanner was detected (my last scanner was an all in one and attached to the group lp), when I sent the command to acquire preview and also scan the scanner arm gave a little lurch and then just stopped. Still at least the computer and the scanner are talking, just not the same language yet.

Do you have the appropriate SANE backend for your Perfection 1250 installed?

It is the plustek.conf file that I need (I think) I have found the man-page and will have a read. Probably have to do it on Sunday as I have to move the pigs, do some planting in the poly-tunnel and brew some bio-diesel tomorrow.

OK I had a read, found a plustek.conf backend for sane that works and now I have a working scanner.
