Ok, sound works! That's what was missing: the kernel upgrade. So, that's done, I recompiled my NIC drivers since they weren't good enough for the new kernel, and everything now works the way it should. Ok, so I have no hardware acceleration for my video card yet, but I use windows for games anyways for now. Sound was my first priority.

So, kernel's upgraded, how do I get rid of the old one?

Nevermind, found a good article on removing a kernel. Thanks for your help everyone.

I would leave the old kernel, never hurts to have backup kernels.
