Empty /var/log/messages

My /var/log/message file is always empty when the logs rotate. How can I have the date automatically put in the /var/log/message file everytime a new one is created. ~thanks

In the post section of your logrotate script for syslog add a line like "logger -t postlogrotate 'Logfile rotated'" or similar.
