easy Beryl install for Slack 12

Thanks to Dagmar of the DLG (dropline gnome) team. We have some prebuilt packages of Beryl and it's goodies/extras packages.
Simply...

Code:

wget http://dagmar.droplinegnome.org/2.18/aquamarine-0.2.1-i686-1dl.tgz
wget http://dagmar.droplinegnome.org/2.18/beryl-core-0.2.1-i686-1dl.tgz
wget http://dagmar.droplinegnome.org/2.18/beryl-manager-0.2.1-i686-1dl.tgz
wget http://dagmar.droplinegnome.org/2.18/beryl-plugins-0.2.1-i686-1dl.tgz
wget http://dagmar.droplinegnome.org/2.18/beryl-settings-0.2.1-i486-1dl.tgz
wget http://dagmar.droplinegnome.org/2.18/beryl-settings-bindings-0.2.1-i486-1dl.tgz
wget http://dagmar.droplinegnome.org/2.18/beryl-settings-simple-0.2.1-i686-1dl.tgz
wget http://dagmar.droplinegnome.org/2.18/emerald-0.2.1-i686-1dl.tgz
wget http://dagmar.droplinegnome.org/2.18/emerald-themes-0.2.1-i686-1dl.tgz
wget http://dagmar.droplinegnome.org/2.18/heliodor-0.2.1-i686-1dl.tgz
wget http://dagmar.droplinegnome.org/2.18/pycairo-1.4.0-i686-2dl.tgz
wget http://dagmar.droplinegnome.org/2.18/pygobject-2.12.3-i686-3dl.tgz
wget http://dagmar.droplinegnome.org/2.18/pygtk-2.10.6-i686-1dl.tgz
wget http://dagmar.droplinegnome.org/2.18/pyorbit-2.14.3-i686-1dl.tgz
wget http://dagmar.droplinegnome.org/2.18/pyrex-0.9.5.1a-i486-1dl.tgz

Do that from a temporary directory and installpkg *.tgz
Everything should work (given your xorg.conf and video card are up to the task)

Does these packages have dependancies on the Gnome or Dropline Gnome packages? By this, I mean, is it possible to install them seamlessly in a stock Slackware 12 install?

KhaoSlacker 08-08-2007 03:54 AM

the packages i mentioned to wget are all the dep's you need. beryl will never call on anything else DLG/Gnome related :)

How do i start this in xfce? I added beryl-manager to autostarted apps and nothing comes up after the loading screen for xfce. I CAN however spin the cube with my mousewheel. help plz!

libwnck Package Missing?

Hi,
i download all the packages, and install them.
So far, so good. It seems beryl is on the way.
When running beryl-manager (from the console) i was getting an error about the library libwnc.
I've been reading that some people needed to install it (although it seems is for Gnome)

Anyway, I just downloaded and install it from here:
prdownloads.sourceforge.net/dropline-gnome/libwnck-2.16.0-i686-1dl.tgz

And im not getting that error anymore ... still not seeing the spinning cubes, but on my way.

So, just FYI, you may need that libwnck installed too.

I must have forgot about that one.

wget http://dagmar.droplinegnome.org/2.18...3-i686-1dl.tgz

to finish all that off :)

Hi,
In my case, im getting a lot of dependencies problems.
When I start beryl, it complains about the lack of this libraries:

libGConf2_4-2.10.1-2mdk.i586.tgz
libcroco0.6_3-0.6.0-2mdk.i586.tgz
librsvg-2.16.1-i486-1.tgz
librsvg-2.16.1-i686-1dl.tgz

Ive been able to install those ones, but still asking for more ... So far, I gave up. I think I must have messed up with some previous installation and it is the cause to keep making calls to those libraries ... I wonder if installing GNome will fix all those problems. Im facing a very similar problem when installing VMWare.

Anyone knows what are those libraries and why are they being used/called?

thanks,

Juan

For those interested I have created a script from this tutorial which will install Beryl on Slackware 12.0 . If you wanna check it out here it is.

KhaoSlacker, thanks to you and the Dropline GNOME team for bringing such an awesome tool to life on such a kickass distro!

EDIT: now with the option to remove it using the same script.
EDIT: I've got a script for Compiz now too.

Hi, I've downloaded and installed all those packages on Slack 12, but I have a problem, when I try to run beryl I get this:

Code:

Detected xserver                                : AIGLX

Checking Display :0 ...

Checking for XComposite extension              : failed

No composite extension
beryl: No composite extension

I have an ATI Radeon 9600 video card, with proprietary drivers installed. From what I understood from after I've search on google, ATI cards does not support Composite extension (or something like that ). Is there any way to get beryl working? I can live without it but well...

I haven't seen people really responding to this (and I've checked back here periodically) so I guess I'll take this.

Compiz and Beryl require the Composite extension. I'm not sure (I stick with nVidia, I've always had better luck with them) but I think this was only true for the older drivers. Check their site - I did a quick search and this is all I found, but I think it's old:
http://support.ati.com/ics/support/d...estionID=26907

You might want to check this out, too, from the Compiz site:
http://compiz.org/ATI
From the looks of that, you can get it to work if you use XGL instead, and disable AIGLX:
according to this page (I know it's for Ubuntu but it should still work) you can do:
Code:

Section "ServerFlags"
Option "AIGLX" "off"
EndSection
