hey everyone,
well as my usb network adapter for my wireless network wouldnt work to setup w/ linux, I just bought a new pci adapter instead that was at a good price

i bought a d-link DWL-520 2.4Gz Wirless PCI Adapter, and when i went online to see if they were supported by linux I found lots of stuff for each of the revisions of the card, so I looked on mine and I noticed that mine was a revision D2, and I have now searched a lot and I can't even find this card on the d-link site itself which is very weird, does anyone know anything about the DWL-520 revision d2 card, like waht teh chipset is and if it works on linux easy, and if anyone has been able to get it to work could you explain how you did, thanks alot

i found this site talking about it, but this is the only place i have seen it and i dont exactly know how reliable it is. According to this site this particular pci card comes w/ RealTek 8180L chipset. Is this supported by linux? I am currently running ona 2.6.11.8 kernel.
http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/...model=RTL8180L
I downloaded the 2.6.x driver from that website. If this card is indeed supported by linux how do i go about setting it up on linux w/ the driver that I downloaded

Found this
Quote:
1. Login to linux and open a command prompt and type "su root" and type the password for root.
2. cd (change directory) to the root folder in the command prompt.
3. mkdir "drivers"
4. cd into the new drivers folder
5. type "wget -c ftp://152.104.125.40/cn/wlan/rtl8180...v_v15_rh73.zip" (without the quotes).
6. type "chmod u+x rtl8180_linuxdrv_v15_rh73.zip" //makes executable
7. type "sh rtl8180_linuxdrv_v15_rh73.zip" //execute it
A quick question, is it necessary to uninstall and remove my current usb network adapter if I am going to use this now? Or is ti psosible to use this pci card for linux and use the usb network adapter for windows? Or will this mess up all the of the connections or will it just not work, thanks for help

I found some open source drivers that will work with your card: website . though it doesn't say which revision of the card so i'm presuming it supports all of them. it also has a pretty in-depth howto here.
