dual monitor
I just searched the Slackware forum with this exact title. Nothing came up. Is this possible to do? I have an extra monitor and would like to do this. I would need an extra video card. Two questions. Is it ok to have one video card AGP the other PCI? I'm assuming most dual monitor setups are like this since I have not see a MB with 2 AGP slots. I read the stuff for dual monitors in Mandrake and it seemed really easy to setup for X. Anyone here using Slackware that has done this?

Matrox has a series of video adapters designed to operate multiple monitors. The adapters have multiple VGA connectors for each monitor.
ATI offers the Radeon with two connectors, but from what I have seen they display the same information. The support issue here would be for the X server, rather than a distro, to support the card(s) that you want to use. I have configured AGP and PCI video under Win98 but not under Linux. I would think the most reliable operation and best performing would be on a single adapter supporting multiple monitors. |
Excalibur,
Thanks for the reply. I think I'll just go and get a GC and try it. I read a post on here and it didn't sound to hard. I didn't think it would be a distro related question but wanted to make sure. |
i;ve made loads of posts on here about dual heads, just search. you can normally use any old pair of cards.

NSKL,
Thanks for the offer on the e-mails. I should have no problems at all. It seems a lot of Debian users have dual monitors and I've been reading their post. |
