dropline-pam-can't become root-su:unknown module
hello
i installed slackware and dropline gnome. in the end of the dropline gnome installation i got an error message about pam, which i ignored, restarted and now i cannot become root. typing su gives me the message su: module is unknown. i boot into init 4, and there is no gnome in kdm. which is not the main problem, i just wanted to try out dropline, i could live without gnome, as long as i can be root again. what to do. i cannot change anything without being root. any tips? |
Did you forcibly exclude PAM in the installation?
Better question... Did you do a full install? |
yes it was a full install. both slackware and dropline. i reinstalled it now. it seemed like the easiest thing to do. thanks for the answer anyhow. best regards

yes, quite... but unfortunately without gnome ;~)
... don't want to make dropline sound bad, fact is that i was doing the whole thing in a hassle, and didn't read the instructions carefully at all. so probably my bad. |
Considering that at least once a month I wind up erasing one of my partition sets and doing a clean reinstall of everything just to make sure something hasn't broken when no one was looking, this has pretty much got to be something specific to either your machine or configuration.
It would probably be useful if we knew more about what it was so maybe something could be put in there to prevent it being able to happen, but oh well. If you think of or remember something unusual that you did before, please feel free to speak up about it. |
