Thumbs up Dropline is niiiice

omg, I just tried dropline gnome http://www.dropline.net/ and it's excellent, I was using WMaker but instead of just staying simple I thought, why not treat yourself - multimedia keys, rounded suite of software and all for the price of an internet connection - it is GOOD. Go get it guys!

I love it, even though it's a little sluggish on a Celeron 366. The fonts are the best; better than KDE, better than Windows. I'm still sticking with it because it's so pretty, even though XFCE-4 was faster. (I use fluxbox on my K6-2 notebook, though.)

yeah I'm running it too, and damn does it look good - best looking text I've seen on any machine, sure it's a wee bit slower than some WMgers but I reckon it more than makes up for it by provide a lovely working environment - and a really great suite of software too! good choice LinFreak!

I like it too!!
Just a think...I use Slack 9.0...and the Dropline installation process causes the downgrade of some packages (i.e. glibc) that I have updated to fix some vulnerabilites...
After Dropline installation take a check of packages version...
Bye

Don't you have a list of these packages?

They use font which were freely available from Microsoft

I just use gnome bundled with slackware and it works fine... what's the key difference between dropline/normal gnome?

@atmchicago & others:
well, I did a fresh install of slack9.1 (free iso) which was very lean. This was what I originally wanted - a lean mean machine!! but instead of sticking to this I couldnt help trying dropline (I had no gnome or kde only twm, WMaker & blackbox) It automatically downloads and configures your system for you, then when you actually look at it it's quite a package. Not only does it have gnome but also epiphany (cutdown mozilla), gxine (I hadn't seen G xine before) gaim, gkrellm (system monitor) plus the usual G-apps + more themes than usual BUT......

@Obscure
Yes, there are LOTS of downgrades. I fixed this though by inserting my slack9.1 disk and issuing the following commands:

$ su
[password]
mount /mnt/cdrom
upgradepkg /mnt/cdrom/slackware/*/*.tgz

(note: no need to upgrade glibc-solibs first it seems (as described in /mnt/cdrom/UPGRADE.TXT))

and all seems ok except a couple of minor niggles.

Try if you liiiikeee!!! eeesss gooood :~]
