This one is now already in the installer channel, so if you re-run dropline-installer you should get it. Please let me know if it works for you.

No go, I'm afraid - whenever I go to add music, there's the yellow progress bar that says scanning but nothing's happening.

I'll enable onboard sound and see if I can use that and see if that helps.

saxa 09-18-2013 01:08 PM

I have no idea whats on then. I listened today to few albums with it without problem. I suggest you to run it from a terminal so you can see some error messages and understand what is wrong with it or paste it here.

I wonder if the problems Rhythmbox is presenting are related to the fact that my soundcard isn't being picked up properly? Rhythmbox works ok for you, and it works fine on Arch for me. I dunno. Maybe you're looking in the wrong place for an answer - just a thought. No apps that use my souncard work properly (the card is fine and the module is loaded - fine on current and in Arch and I had a look at Ubuntu and is fine there too).

Weird, indeed.

EDIT - this is the output I get;

Code:

(rhythmbox:5327): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_unref: assertion `G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed

(rhythmbox:5327): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_unref: assertion `G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed

I sincerely have no idea, what means works ok for you, it played 3 albums today, it opens the lastfm page it displays the album information with the photo, and it scans for music. It plays the music also, but other things i do not have idea what it should do more.

I also get the similar output on the terminal.
Code:

sasa@beast:~$ rhythmbox

I imagine we'd have similar ideas of what a working application is.

Rhythmbox doesn't work for me under dropline. What I mean by not working is that Rhythmbox can't/won't scan my music collection. There are so few options on Rhythmbox that if it doesn't work perfectly, it's pretty much useless. I'm glad it works for you.

In an earlier exchange you suggested that there was a problem with your implementation of pulseaudio. I can tell you that I can't change volume using the master volume control (on the panel) on any app. I can make Audacious work if I get it to use a device other than PulseAudio, though I can't change volume within Gnome, I have to use my speakers. That's OK. I'm just trying to tell you that on my rig something's up with the sound when I use beta dropline. By way of contrast, I don't have any problems with sound on Slack current/KDE, Arch/Gnome 3.8, Ubuntu/Unity and Debian/Gnome 3.4.

I'm going to leave it there.

saxa 09-18-2013 04:29 PM

Bazzaah, ok I got it. Now please answer me, which arch of DLG you use i686 or x86-64 ?
Also is it a full clean install of slackware 14.0 with clean dlg ?
As for rhythmbox I would suggest you to try to reset the default user settings by removing the .config/dconf/user file.
I will take a look in the pulseaudio stuff.

saxa 09-18-2013 09:24 PM

Please try to update as now I have just pushed up 3 updates, alsa-plugins, libx264 and ffmpeg.

Bazzaah 09-19-2013 05:33 AM

Excellent!

We have progress.

I use x86_64 (I got the 64bit Rhythmbox from your site as I've not multlibbed this installation to use 32-bit). It's a clean updated full installation of 14.0 (bar Flash and VLC) and DLG.

I can now;

- change volume using volume control on panel for all apps I've tested so far.
- use alsamixer
- use pavucontrol

But

- pulseaudio displays no device in Sound Settings
- Rhythmbox can't scan still. I dragged a file into it and that played just fine however. I'll reinstall - removing the config file didn't seem to help.

So mostly sorted out. Thanks again. Pulseaudio I think isn't 100% sorted yet but you seem to have cracked most of the problems I was having. Rhythmbox is just weird.

saxa 09-19-2013 05:55 AM

Bazzaah, glad to hear its going ahead partially. Step by step we will sort it out. I will see if I can work on Pulseaudio still today or tomorrow. Rhythmbox problem imho has nothing to do with Pulseaudio.

Bazzaah 09-19-2013 06:03 AM

Thanks Saxa - big step forward though!

I agree about Rhythmbox - all the more since it can play music files - it just won't scan for some reason.

Would it break anything if I were to install Python 3 and compile Rhythmox 3 locally?

saxa 09-19-2013 06:08 AM

No, you can safely do that. It wont brak anything until you start compilling gnome3 related stuff we ship over.

Bazzaah 09-19-2013 06:13 AM

I'll give it a go. These are the dependencies

libproxy, gnome-keyring, libsoup, totem-pl-parser, gnome-media, gst-python, gnome-python-desktop, brasero, and pywebkitgtk

according to the Slackbuild - would any affect DLG and I suppose some are already installed?

saxa 09-19-2013 06:17 AM

I think you shoul be able to get rhythmbox going only by installing python3 and recompile rhythmbox. Other parts will not be necessary to recompile imho. Although if there is a necessity to rebuild them i can tell you for sure if it will affect other parts of the desktop.

saxa 09-20-2013 09:53 PM

Yup, we are going further, please re-run dropline-installer and you should get a new build of Pulseaudio and a sbc package, which I would like to hear from somebody if it works well. What is new in this PulseAudio ? It has Bluetooth support enabled. So if you have some bluetooth earphone device you now should be able to use it via Bluetooth.

Anybody can confirm ?
