By the way, I had to install chrome-gnome-shell in order to get the extensions page working through the browser. Maybe it's not necessary and I did something wrong, but I have a SlackBuild for it if you are interested. |
Yeah, I was even thinking to reactivate the forums, but since the dropline community is probably very very small, I think there is not much sense to have the forums up. Maybe I decide to do it, will see, not a big priority right now.
For the chrome-gnome-shell i have no idea, since i use firefox it always worked for me in firefox. Maybe something changed in the recent days, but laast time i used the extensions.gnome.org worked ok for me. |
I'm using Firefox myself, but I still needed to install that to make it work. Before I installed it, the extensions page complained a "native host connector" wasn't running. But if you're not having that problem, maybe it's just something on my end.
Edit: there's also a Firefox plugin, but that didn't work for me (it still complained about the native host connector). I had to actually remove the plugin and install chrome-gnome-shell for it to work on Firefox. |
Which extension are you trying to install ? Can you point the link to it ?
|
It seems you are right :)
It is on gnome side that something has changed from last time i tried it. Now I am getting this message: "Although GNOME Shell integration extension is running, native host connector is not detected. Refer documentation for instructions about installing connector." So it needs gnome-shell-extensions package or something named simirarly. I will see if I add this to the packages list. Here are some instructions: https://wiki.gnome.org/Projects/Gnom...e/Installation |

It's any extension really, but the two that I've installed are shellshape and system-monitor. Without the broswer extension or chrome-gnome-shell installed, I get a warning at the top of the page that you see in the first image. With the browser extension installed but not chrome-gnome-shell, it gives me the second warning. Either way, the off/on toggle doesn't show up for any extensions.
Edit: I see you found out the same thing. |
Correct , thats what happens also here. I can confirm it.

Hey saxa,
I'm wondering whether you made any progress in getting GDM to work. I successfully built packages for elogind and GDM, but GDM just hangs and doesn't seem to do anything when I try to run it. There's no output, either. If I use runlevel 4, it just brings me to a console login, though there is a process running for GDM (probably hanging). EDIT: Sorry, I should have said I built gdm-3.20.1 (and elogind-231.3). I didn't actually realize you already had gdm-3.16.4 in the release. |
Hi, to be honet I had no time to work on DLG lately at all. Really busy with work stuff. Last time I played with GDM was very far ago, I have been able to make it apear but then in some way it hangs. It is needed to review well the patches for removing the logind and unfortunately I have no time to do that.

In any case, if I do manage to get GDM working, I'll report back here. It would be nice to have native user, power, and session management working in GNOME. |
Great ! Yes just report it here or send me an email or on the dropline devel list in some way i will try to start working shortly on the newer stuff from gnome i think. Will see how time permits it. But yeah, I am all ears and eyes to see the solution :) Thanks!

So, I've made some progress with this but ultimately haven't gotten GDM working so far. Here is where I'm at:
|
Ok, just let me knw your github link and thats it, I will take a look at it when I have some time. Although I am more inclined to leave GDM out in the future. IIRC it is the only thing really that needs systemd AFAIK.
